作者介绍：
弗朗西斯·培根（1561—1626），英国文艺复兴时期 的哲学家和文学家。他不仅在文学、哲学方面成就显赫，在社会科学和自然科学领域里同样建树颇丰。他推崇科学、崇尚知识，一生追求真理。被誉为“法律之舌”“科学之光”，被马克思称为“英国唯物主义和整个现代实验科学的真正始祖”。著有《学术的进步》《新工具》《培根随笔集》等。《培根随笔集》是英国随笔文学的开山之作。
