《治理什么样的国家，怎样治理国家（英）》：
China is an ancient civilization with a long history However, since the woddwide industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries, China missed the opportunity for industrialization and was left behind. After the First Opium War （1840-1842）, Cluna lost control of its authority, then suffered loss of sovereignty, and step by step became a semi-colorual and semi-feudal country lagging belund in economy and culture, whilst being bullied by other powefS. In 1949, the People's Republic of China （PRC） was founded and Mao Zedong announced, "The Chinese People, one-fourth of the world's population, have stood Up." Since then, China's backwardness has changed significantly During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea （1950-1953）, the Chinese People's Volunteers forced the United Nations Command, which was armed with modern equipment and led by the US, to the negotiating table. Since then, China's history of being beaten by other powers finally ended.
However, after the founding of the PRC and during the Cold War （1947-1991）, China suffered an external blockade for a long time, which affected the economy and even culture and public opiruon. China's voice could not be heafd outside China, and people outside China could only get to know China from rampant, highly distorted Western media reports. Even after legally taking its seat again in the Uruted Nations in 1971, China had not been able to speak its voice to become one of the discourse and opinion leaders. The situation greatly improved with the introduction of China's reform and opening up in 1978; significantly, one of the most important landmarks was Deng Xiaoping's prowess in becorrung Time's Man of the Year on two separate occasions.
