DAVIDBOWERreceivedhisD.Phil.fromtheUniversityofOxfordin1964.In1990hebecameareaderintheDepartmentofPhysicsattheUniversiytofLeeds,retiringfromthispositionin1995.HewasafoundermemberofthemanagementcommitteeoftheIRCinPolymerScienceandTechnology(UniversitiesofLeeds,DurhamandBradford),andco-authoredTheVibrationalSpectrosopyofPolymerswithW.F.Maddams(CUP,1989).Hiscontributiontotheprimaryliteraturehasincludedworkonpolymers,solid-statephysicsandmagnetism.
